Advantages of hydrogen addition in a passive pre‐chamber ignited <scp>SI</scp> engine for passenger car applications

Hydrogen is one of the most promising alternative fuels for transportation industry. The use hydrogen to enable lean burn in internal combustion engines an attractive solution reducing CO2 emissions from two points views: substitution carbon-based and increased thermal efficiency due operation. Combining this strategy with passive pre-chamber ignition system gasoline/hydrogen blends even more interesting. main limitations concept a high compression ratio spark-ignition engine were shown through experiments. A numerical study was then performed evaluate chance extending dilution limit by using along technology. Results show how provides considerable benefits chamber process enhancing thermo-chemical properties mixture, increasing flame speed, improving structure. Using adequate gasoline-hydrogen blend proved optimum burning rates at conditions, leading relevant gain.
